Why do I make art?

Tammy Routley           Artist at Large

Sometimes I paint just for myself: for fun, for emotional release, for healing.  Sometimes I'm practising: trying to learn a new technique or combine  different ideas.  This year I am doing a "PLAY Experiment" - investigating the concept of Play and how it relates to making art.

A few (okay, a lot more than a few!) years ago

I studied Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo.

I also did some intense courses at the Ontario College of Art & Design in Toronto.

After moving to BC, I discovered Art Therapy and explored it for a year or so, taking courses in West Vancouver and Victoria.

I enjoy meeting other artists, gathering new ideas and incorporating them into my own art. I also love children's book illustration!
